Our Commitment to Responsible Business
Introduction
At Best4Business Accountants, we believe that being a responsible business extends beyond the professional services we provide. It encompasses how we support our people, serve our clients, engage with our communities, protect the environment and conduct ourselves with integrity.
As a trusted provider of accountancy, bookkeeping, taxation and business advisory services, we recognise that our success is built upon the confidence placed in us by our clients, employees and wider stakeholders. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, ethical conduct and corporate responsibility in everything we do.
This statement outlines the principles that guide our approach to responsible business and reflects our commitment to continuous improvement as our firm continues to grow.
Our Business
Best4Business Accountants forms part of a wider professional services group with offices in Cambridge and London and approximately 60 professionals across the group.
We provide a comprehensive range of services including:
- Accountancy
- Bookkeeping
- Tax compliance
- Tax consultancy
- Business advisory services
As members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, we are committed to maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards whilst delivering practical, commercial advice tailored to our clients’ individual needs.
Our objective is to develop long-term relationships built on trust, integrity and technical excellence, enabling our clients to achieve sustainable success.
Our People
Our people are our greatest asset and are fundamental to the quality of service we provide.
We are committed to creating a supportive, inclusive and rewarding working environment where every individual is encouraged to develop professionally and personally.
We invest significantly in the development of our staff by:
- supporting professional qualifications, including ACCA, ACA and CTA through apprenticeship programmes where appropriate;
- providing regular Continuing Professional Development and in-house technical training;
- allowing paid study leave and flexibility to attend professional courses and examinations;
- encouraging continuous learning and knowledge sharing across the firm.
Employee wellbeing is equally important to us. We recognise the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and promote flexible and hybrid working wherever practical. We encourage colleagues to take regular breaks from their screens, participate in wellbeing initiatives and maintain healthy working practices.
We are committed to providing a safe working environment for all employees. Appropriate health and safety arrangements are maintained within our offices, and guidance is provided to colleagues working remotely to ensure safe and effective home working practices.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Best4Business Accountants is committed to providing an inclusive workplace where everyone is treated with dignity, fairness and respect.
We are proud to be an equal opportunities employer and are committed to ensuring that recruitment, development and promotion decisions are based solely on merit, skills and performance.
We maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards discrimination, harassment and victimisation in any form.
Our workforce benefits from a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, helping us better understand the needs of our clients and strengthening our collaborative culture.
Formal performance and development reviews are undertaken twice each year to ensure that career progression is transparent, objective and based on individual contribution and achievement.
Ethical Business and Governance
Professional integrity underpins everything we do.
We are committed to conducting our business honestly, transparently and in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and professional standards.
Our governance framework includes policies and procedures covering:
- professional ethics and integrity;
- confidentiality and information security;
- independence and objectivity;
- anti-bribery and corruption;
- whistleblowing;
- data protection and privacy;
- cyber security; and
- modern slavery and responsible procurement.
Confidential information entrusted to us is handled with the utmost care and appropriate technical and organisational safeguards are maintained to protect client and business data.
Our technology environment incorporates Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Defender, together with multi-factor authentication, conditional access, managed patching and documented security procedures to support the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information.
We encourage all employees to raise concerns regarding unethical behaviour through our whistleblowing arrangements, ensuring that concerns can be reported without fear of retaliation.
Supporting Our Clients
We understand that our clients rely upon us not only for compliance services but also as trusted advisers.
We are committed to building long-term relationships founded upon trust, transparency and technical excellence.
We seek to:
- provide clear, practical and timely advice;
- communicate openly and honestly;
- maintain the highest standards of professional competence;
- invest continually in technical knowledge and professional development; and
- support our clients in achieving their commercial objectives.
The long-standing relationships we have developed with many of our clients reflect our commitment to delivering a consistently high standard of service and acting in our clients’ best interests at all times.
Supporting Our Communities
As a local employer, we recognise the importance of supporting our communities and creating opportunities for future professionals.
We actively support apprenticeship programmes and provide opportunities for school leavers seeking to develop careers within the accountancy profession. By investing in early careers, we aim to develop the next generation of accounting and taxation professionals.
We also support charitable causes through payroll giving arrangements, enabling employees to contribute regularly to charities through salary deductions.
Environmental Responsibility
Whilst the environmental impact of our professional services is relatively low, we recognise our responsibility to minimise our environmental footprint wherever practical.
We are committed to reducing our impact by:
- operating as a digital-first practice;
- encouraging paperless working wherever possible;
- utilising cloud-based accounting systems;
- making extensive use of electronic document management and electronic signatures;
- conducting meetings remotely where appropriate to reduce unnecessary travel;
- securely recycling IT equipment at the end of its lifecycle;
- promoting energy efficiency across our offices; and
- supporting hybrid working arrangements to reduce commuting where appropriate.
We continually review opportunities to improve our environmental performance and adopt sustainable working practices.
Responsible Supply Chain
We seek to establish long-term relationships with reputable suppliers who share our commitment to ethical business practices.
Our supplier selection processes take appropriate account of professionalism, reliability, ethical conduct and compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
As set out in our Modern Slavery Statement, we maintain a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking and expect similar standards from organisations with whom we do business.
Continuous Improvement
Responsible business is an ongoing commitment rather than a one-off exercise.
We regularly review our policies, procedures and business practices to ensure they remain appropriate, effective and aligned with evolving legal requirements, professional standards and stakeholder expectations.
Our partners maintain oversight of our responsible business commitments, while employee feedback plays an important role in identifying opportunities for improvement.
We remain committed to continually strengthening our governance, investing in our people, embracing technological innovation and enhancing the quality of service we provide to our clients.
Governance and Review
This statement has been approved by the Partners of Best4Business Accountants and will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains appropriate to the nature, scale and development of our business.
